“A good newspaper, I suppose, is a nation talking to itself”
– Arthur Miller
About The Collection
These antique newspapers were acquired or bought new by a New York based collector, active from the 1920’s through the 1990’s.
This set represents a lifetime of newspaper collecting, and provides a real time look into all the major historical events of the late 19th century and the entire 20th century.
I inherited this collection when the owner passed away in the 1990s. Since that time, the newspapers have been stored within folios, in sealed boxes located in southern California.
The collection ranges from 1663 to 1999. Most of it was collected to record an historical or cultural event. A little bit of it reflects the collector’s travels – wherever he went across the world, he bought a newspaper.
The items here, once all are added, will represent the complete collection. Nothing has been picked or removed.
As a fan of history, I find these newspapers fascinating. Even if you’re not a collector, I hope you enjoy them!
