President Harding Dies In San Francisco – New York Herald 08/03/1923
Headline: President Harding Dies In San Francisco; His End Comes Suddenly From Apoplexy”
From the New York Herald, 08/03/1923
This newspaper documents the 1923 death of President Warren Harding. Harding died of a heart attack, but at the time doctors believed he died of a stroke, which was termed in the headline as “apoplexy”.
This newspaper is in rather delicate condition and has some tearing along the right side (see photo).
The thick black borders around the column margins are there to denote the nation’s state of mourning for the dead President.
