Millions Hail King and Queen In Triumphant Tour Of City – New York World Telegram 06/10/1939
Headline: “Millions Hail King and Queen In Triumphant Tour Of City”
From the New York World Telegram, 06/10/1939
This newspaper is largely dedicated to King George and Queen Elizabeth’s visit to New York City in June of 1939. World War 2 was only two months away. Lots of pictures of ceremonies surrounding the royal visit. Were the royal couple visiting the US as a “propaganda” effort to increase support for Britain if it needed help in a possible upcoming war with Germany?
Includes really interesting article about Hitler, peace, and Chamberlain. Headline for article is “Hitler Promises Mapping Proposals For Solving World Problems”.
Images included in gallery:
- full front page of this newspaper
- two page photo spread from the visit. Most of the pictures in this newspaper are photos of Queen Elizabeth and King George at various ceremonial events around NYC.
- An incredible headline viewed from the perspective of history – “Hitler Promises Mapping Proposals For Solving World Problems”.
- The article content belonging to the headline above. Now we know that as of the date of this paper, Hitler was promising peace in order to lull Europe and America into a false sense of security, so that he would (and did) shock the world when invading France and other neighboring countries in just a few months. Quote from the article: “”Adolf Hitler [is] preparing specific proposals to France, Britain and the Unites States for a settlement of problems which have been causing fears of a world war.”
